Jesus Is About To Ruin All Your Plans
“The enemy comes in like a flood.”
See Isaiah 59:19
I know the title of this devotional may seem like a downer, but let me explain. If you’ve decided to let Jesus live through you, and you are excited, well good! PRAISE GOD! HALLELUJAH! Welcome to my Family! AWESOME THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN IN YOUR LIFE!
…But let’s just keep things real about this new life. When you first believed in Christ as your Savior, you were spiritually shoved to the frontline of a supernatural battle. You are now a soldier in the Kingdom of God who fights with grace, not because of anything you are doing, but because of who resides in you. Therefore, a flood is coming your way, from hell.
When you made the choice to give your heart and life to Jesus, I mean really put your all into this thing–none of that little “Sunday morning peek-in stuff”–the devil sent out reinforcements from the darkest parts of hell. IT’S COMING…but don’t be afraid.
These wicked reinforcements are going to begin to wash over your life, attempting to get you to revert back to your pre-Jesus state of living. So be ready, a flood is coming, a MONSOON. The Bible says, “the enemy comes in like a flood” (Isaiah 59:19). And what does a flood do? It covers everything! It’s impossible to stop! It comes RUSHING IN, and tries to knock you over, destroy your home, ruin your life, and then kill you by drowning!
But that’s okay…you ain’t moving this time. This flood is simply the devil and his demonic crew. JUST LET THEM TRY THEIR BEST TO KNOCK YOU OVER–THEY CAN’T. Inside you are BRAND NEW ROOTS! Yes, you may bend as the flood comes washing through your life! You will feel like you are about to snap and break!…But…you won’t. Jesus Christ in you is holding you firm.
YOU ARE NOW BUILT ON THE ROCK OF JESUS CHRIST HIMSELF! You ain’t going anywhere! That flood doesn’t stand a chance! Instead, it will wash away all of the things and people that shouldn’t be in your life! LET THAT STUFF GO! LET THEM GO! Stop being afraid to go on without it, or them! After all, the only people who will be washed away are those who aren’t built on that rock with you! Stop ruining your life trying to keep people in your life who don’t want anything to do with you or Jesus! Let that flood wash them away. It won’t be easy, but you have to let…go…
Addictions, habits, mindsets, and people, all will be washed away…but you won’t. And just how do you not get washed away by the flood of the enemy? HOW DO YOU STAY PUT WHILE EVERYTHING ELSE DRIFTS FAR OFF, INTO THE DISTANCE?! Jesus tells us:
“Therefore everyone who HEARS THESE WORDS OF MINE AND PUTS THEM INTO PRACTICE is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock” (Matthew 7:24,25 my emphasis added).
WE HEAR HIS WORDS AND PUT THEM INTO PRACTICE! THIS IS HOW WE BUILD UP OUR CONFIDENCE IN WHAT WE ARE NOW DOING! THIS IS HOW WE BUILD OUR HOUSE ON THE ROCK!
And we discern His words by looking around those words in Scripture, in context. If you don’t look at Scripture in context, you will be conned by the text. When we read, we must always consider a few things. Is He speaking to us, as post-Cross Christians? Or is He speaking to the legalistic Pharisees who all they knew were religious rules and self-righteousness?
As we read each section of the Bible in context, is He teaching us grace? Or was He setting up those who needed to be shown the one thing they lacked for perfection, which was faith in Him, alone? The key is to insert the words “I do”–as in me, not Jesus, or me plus Jesus. It has to be only Jesus, and our faith in that. Jesus is not interested in us living by Old Testament laws, rules, and religious regulations, but instead by His Spirit in us, coming out of us, organically (see Galatians 5:22,23).
He wasn’t speaking in hyperbole when He said you must be perfect–you have to be perfect in order to be in the presence of God forever! But the only way you can possibly accomplish perfection is through a spiritual death and resurrection, by grace through faith–not by anything you can possibly do on your own, or by anything you think you can add to it to keep it, or sustain it. It’s free at your taking from the beginning–and it always will be (see Romans 6, Ephesians 2:8,9).
Jesus then tells us how can get swept away by this flood:
“But everyone who hears these words of mine and DOES NOT PUT THEM INTO PRACTICE is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash” (Matthew 7:26,27 my emphasis added).
We are not building our new lives on sand, but on a firm foundation–A ROCK–the Rock, Jesus! As we allow Him to live out of us, little by little, what the enemy tries to use for our harm, he is actually doing us a favor by washing away harmful things and people who aren’t built on this rock with us!
I KNOW IT’S PAINFUL! IT’S OKAY TO FEEL THAT PAIN! FEEL IT! FEEL IT, AND BRING IT TO JESUS! HE WILL GIVE YOU YOUR COMFORT! BUT DON’T YOU DARE TRY MAKE THINGS STAY THAT ARE CURRENTLY BEING DRAGGED AWAY BY THE FLOOD! LET IT GO!
Jesus is making new things happen for you now. He makes all things new! (See Revelation 21:5). And when you really dig your heels in with Jesus–and develop a close relationship–it may look like things are falling apart, but they’re not. Instead, everything is coming together. A cleansing is taking place. The loose articles are being washed away. Don’t go back to how you were because that’s not you anymore. Don’t hold on to stuff, places, and people. Allow this flood to reshape the landscape of your life. This too shall pass! And you will look back and be amazed at what God was doing as He ripped up the roots of your life, planted new seeds, allowed a flood to happen, and then watched proudly as you grew big and strong in Christ!
A prayer for you: Good morning Lord! Thank you for this day! This is gonna be a great day because I know you love me, and you are with me. Right now, I lift up all who are reading this, directly to you. So many of them are doing their best to allow you to live through them, but they are experiencing very difficult times. Please, help them. GIVE THEM STRENGTH! You say in Isaiah, “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” WE KNOW YOU ARE DOING NEW THINGS! We trust you! But please help them to STAND FIRM IN JESUS as they walk through your way in the wilderness, and as they drink from the rivers you provide in this new desert. We KNOW that you are good! We DO trust you! So bring on the rain and the flood, let it wash away everything that you don’t want in their lives! WE WILL STAND STRONG AND FIRMLY ROOTED IN CHRIST! Thank you for everything. Amen.
